14: lessons from 75 hard

last saturday i finished 75 hard.

here are 7 things i learned:

  1. hitting two workouts a day is easy if you use google calendar
  2. i’d much rather do a few things well than many things perfectly
  3. doing the thing when you have every excuse not to (eg, going an outdoor workout in a flash flood) makes every other day 5-10x easier
  4. running is actually fun - if you go slower and drop the ego
  5. 20k steps/day is not enough to get super lean. you have to eat less
  6. one rule of 75 hard is you can’t change the rules. i changed that one
  7. you can meditate while moving, and some days it’s better than any podcast or album you could listen to

oh, and a bonus: find an accountability partner. even if they’re not as bought in as you are (you’ll find out within a couple weeks), the activation energy helps. and them quitting can fuel you to keep going, if you let it.

overall takeaway: it was fun, i much more enjoy running now, i probably wouldn't do it again because the water + reading + daily picture just adds too much drag to my daily routine. i'd rather just have 3-5 daily non-negotiables and fuck off for the rest of my day.
